EuroTimes Supplement: Integrating Presbyopia-Correction into the Everyday Cataract Practice

A deep dive into eight years of ESCRS Clinical Survey data reveals a steady shift in cataract surgery trends. Since 2016, the use of presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses (IOLs) has grown by 6%—a significant and consistent increase.

By 2023, trifocal and extended depth of focus (EDF) IOLs emerged as the top choices for surgeons, accounting for 42% and 40% of presbyopia-correcting IOLs implanted, respectively. Meanwhile, bifocal IOLs have seen a dramatic decline and are now nearly obsolete.

This shift reflects the growing confidence in advanced IOL technology and its role in optimizing patient outcomes.
